Holy Is Your Name

“And Mary said:”  – Luke 1: 46a

One of my favorite advent hymns is “My soul is filled with joy,” a take by David Haas on the Magnificat.  It’s partly because I’m a sucker for Celtic melody, partly because of the subversive power present in a young woman being the protagonist and source of wisdom in a religious community too often racked by patriarchy and partly because my mother often leads this hymn in my home congregation and sings the versus.

There are a number of Youtube renditions out there – this is one that in a minute of searching seemed clear and conveying of the lyrical quality – that men are singing it is an interesting wrinkle.
